    Powin Energy is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to become part of our project engineering team. You will engage with internal and external stakeholders to help define the engineering requirements and to design optimal project sizing, configuration, collection and protection systems.

     

    This position is full-time and located at our headquarters in Portland, OR.

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of experience or Master’s in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 2 years of experience. An emphasis in power systems is a plus.
    • Experience using AutoCAD.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Experience in renewables (e.g., solar, wind, energy storage) is a plus.
    • Previous work experience at Utilities or AHJs is a plus.

     

    Travel

    This role requires occasional travel to meet with project stakeholders or to project sites and may include overnight stays. International travel may be expected.

    Powin Energy is seeking an Engineering Technical Writer to become part of our project engineering team. You will develop both universal and project-specific technical manuals and instructional videos to ensure industry leading ease of installation, safety, and system performance. Additionally, you will assistance in the creation of an outreach and technical-based education program designed specifically for Utilities and AHJs.

     

    This position is full-time and located at our headquarters in Portland, OR. Working remotely could be considered.

     

    Qualifications

    Scope of Position:

     

    The Powin Energy Account Executive (AE) is a quota-carrying, direct sales role that is assigned a portfolio of customers for whom they must manage all current and future opportunities. Powin’s success will be determined by repeat sales, and the AE has the critical role of nurturing these relationships to produce dramatic growth of the company’s backlog. The sale of Powin products and services is a long-term sale, therefore the AE must be an exemplary relationship manager, always being mindful of the goals and aspirations of the customer.

    The AE has a diverse skill set that elegantly balances sales hunger with market insight, technical knowledge, and elite deal-making skills. Customers rely on the AE to be savvy across all topics in the stationary storage space, so, though there is significant technical sales support at Powin, the AE must remain on top of myriad different applications of stationary storage technologies in general, and Powin products, specifically. That knowledge must include basic understanding of power electronics, electrical site design, and a directional sense of cost impactors for each.

    The stationary storage market is young and evolving quickly, so the AE is frequently forward-selling products and applications that may have never been applied before in a commercial setting. Though Powin’s baseline products are tried and true technologies, most projects that the Powin products will be deployed in have significant customization for a given site and customer. The AE must be an effective contributor to the customer’s project team in the pre-contract phase, and remain in frequent, constructive contact with her/his point of contact throughout the project to ensure that the customer experience is best in class.

    The AE underpins all of the preceding expertise by being highly organized with a strong baseline understanding of project finance and a deep quant comfort in finance modeling, contributing to the customer’s goal of achieving a highly profitable project. Though supported by a back office team that provides procurement, contract and technical support, the AE quarterbacks the sale and has robust leadership and internal team-building skills. The AE has a deep interest in energy market trends, energy storage and grid services economics, and startup cultures, which fuels him/her to secure successful bid responses and sales. Lastly, the AE has an extremely high standard for work product and the customer experience overall; she/he has zero tolerance for less than top quality work reaching her/his customer.

    Responsibilities:

    A summary of the core functions of this role is:

    • value advantages of different products and system design approaches
    • serve as primary relationship manager for a large portfolio of Powin’s blue-chip customers;
    • relentlessly drive direct sales within portfolio, while always ensuring that the long-term customer relationship is solid to support repeat sales;
    • quarterback formal responses to utility, C&I and institutional RFOs;
    • lead formal responses to RFPs issued by third party In Front of the Meter (IFM), Behind the Meter (BTM), solar plus storage and microgrid developers;
    • conduct direct sales and PR calls with charisma, competency and passion;
    • manage teams in creating proforma modeling of individual projects and business opportunities;
    • serve as renewables, distributed resources, energy markets and energy storage industry expert;
    • enthusiastically provide voice of customer feedback to the product management team; and
    • track changes in the energy storage policy landscape and contribute that knowledge to overall business development strategy.

    Skills and Experience

    The ideal candidate (Candidate) has over three (3) years demonstrated experience meeting and exceeding a sales quota or business development expectation in the distributed energy or power electronics space. Demonstrated success forward-selling products and software applications that have not been completed is highly preferred. The Candidate has a strong business and deal-making acumen underpinned by strong communication skills, emotional IQ and passion for startups and the energy industry. The Candidate has strong academic credentials from a reputable undergraduate institution. The Candidate is exceptionally detail oriented, organized and has command of modern communication modes.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide onsite leadership for Powin Energy projects, including all safety programs, contractor management, construction scope invoice approval, emergency response, quality control, onsite meeting leadership, delivery logistics and customer management
    • Act as principal Safety professional and owner of any Powin Energy site
    • Manage contractors onsite for quality electrical, civil, mechanical and metering/communications scope execution
    • Administer Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and Utility inspections
    • Commission the Powin Energy systems
    • Develop a roadmap for future growth of Powin field personnel, present a plan to executive management and lead significant portions of the hiring process to build the team
    • Contribute to the product development process relaying the constructability attributes of products and making recommendations for improvements
    • Contribute to installation manuals for Powin products

    Qualifications

    • Sterling safety record both as a site manager and an individual contributor
      • Licensed electrician or equivalent knowledge set
      • >10 years experience executing on electrical scope of work in low and medium voltage environment
    • Command of IEEE, NEC and IBC required
    • Understanding of NFPA standards and protocols highly preferred
    • Experience commissioning electronics, metering or power generation equipment required
    • Exemplary record of onsite conflict resolution
    • >4 years experience as customer onsite point of contact for at least one major discipline

    Desirable Skills & Experience

    • Extensive power electronics experience highly preferred
    • Power generation and substation experience preferred
    • Demonstrated experience building a team of electricians and technician highly preferred
    • Construction Management Bachelor’s Degree preferred
    • Extensive experience (>10 years) of managing the construction of utility scale and distributed energy projects preferred.

    Job Description

    The Powin Energy Business Development Associate (The Associate) is an integral team member assessing new market opportunities and quarterbacking key business development projects and initiatives. The Associate is an accountable individual contributor, but is also a key, customer-facing representative of Powin Energy and its innovative technologies. It is common for The Associate to represent Powin in customer and stakeholder meetings and major conferences and trade shows. The Associate combines excellent communication skills and emotional IQ with high level business quant skills to optimize deals for Powin’s blue chip set of customers.

     

    The Associate leads Powin’s formal responses to product and project solicitations from utilities, IPPs and commercial and industrial customers for battery storage products, projects and services. The Associate establishes and maintains market assessments. He/She develops strategies and tactics for when, and to what extent, Powin will enter a new market and works with the product management team to determine which products will be featured. The Associate then proposes those strategies and tactics to the Executive Team for approval to execute on them.

     

    The Associate has a deep interest in energy markets and levelized cost of storage and grid services and startup cultures, which fuels she/him to secure successful bid responses and sales.

     

    Responsibilities

    • lead formal responses to utility, C&I and institutional RFOs;
    • lead formal responses to RFPs issued by third party In Front of the Meter (IFM), Behind the Meter (BTM), solar plus storage and microgrid developers;

    • create Excel proforma modeling of individual projects and business opportunities;
    • model a wide variety of products and services for businesses ranging from small businesses to large real estate owners, utilities and retail energy providers;

    • assess new market entry opportunities and work with the product management team to recommend product types;

    Skills and Experience

    The Candidate has greater than three year’s professional experience demonstrating wins with initiatives that she/he personally led. A customer facing track record in a professional business development environment is highly preferred.
